Meera Beharry

MD

Meera Beharry is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Education in the College of Medicine at Texas A&M University. She attended the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/CUNY Medical School, graduated from SUNY Downstate Health Science Center, where she stayed on to complete her Pediatric Residency including a year as Chief Resident. Dr. Beharry completed a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she further developed her interests in adolescent medicine by working with homeless youth, youth with chronic illness, and pregnant and parenting teens in Los Angeles.  During fellowship, she was able to participate in medical education trips to Mongolia through Dr. Richard Mackenzie’s involvement with the Ulan Bator Foundation. These connections solidified her interest in international work. Upon completion of her fellowship, Beharry joined the faculty at the University of Rochester. In 2012, she took a position to revive the Adolescent Medicine Section at McLane Children’s Medical Center of Baylor Scott and White in Temple, TX.  In 2021, Dr. Beharry founded Adolescent Medicine Consulting and her own private practice, Healthy Horizons Hebiatrics. She remains active in medical education through affiliations with Texas A&M and CUNY School of Medicine. Dr. Beharry has been actively involved as an officer with IAAH since 2009, serving as the North American Regional Vice President (2009-2017) and as the Secretary/Treasurer (2017 to present).
