Melissa Kang

MBBS, MCH, PhD

Melissa Kang is a primary care physician specialising in youth health and Professor of Adolescent Health at the Sydney Medical School, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. She has worked closely with policy makers, universities, professional colleges and a range of non-government organisations for 25 years to support education and training of professionals who work with adolescents and young adults. She has led and collaborated in research studies into health services, access, health system navigation and adolescent friendly models of care, as well as research into adolescent sexuality and sexual health. She works with diverse populations of adolescents and young people including those experiencing homelessness and those from migrant and refugee backgrounds and is passionate about meaningful youth participation in research and training. She was the President of the Australian Association for Adolescent Health from 2015 to 2020. Melissa has also co-written several books for adolescents about aspects of puberty and about consent. She was the lead editor on the first Australian textbook on Youth Health and Adolescent Medicine and co-author of Adolescent Health and Well-Being: Meeting Challenges Old and New, published by Routledge in 2025.
