Emma A. Llanto

Emma A. Llanto is a pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist. She headed the Division of Adolescent Medicine of the Philippine General Hospital from 2012 to 2020 and continues to be actively involved in adolescent medicine fellowship training. She co-founded the first “teen mom” program and a health care transition program for adolescents in the country. She is an active member of the Philippine Pediatric Society, Society of Adolescent Medicine of the Philippines, Inc. (SAMPI) and is the immediate president of the Philippine Society of Adolescent Medicine Specialists (PSAMS). She made significant contributions in the development of training materials for health workers namely the Adolescent Job Aid and the e-learning course, Adolescent Health Education and Practical Training (ADEPT). She was part of the committee that developed the standards for Comprehensive Sexuality Education of the Department of Education. In 2020, she headed with a team from the Philippine Pediatric Society that aims to integrate adolescent health care into the country’s residency training program. Dr. Llanto is the project lead of a USAID funded initiative to revise and update the Adolescent Job Aid (AJA). Once completed, the AJA will be utilized by government health service providers nationwide.
