Inspired by the paths of leaders ahead of us, the IAAH Education Committee would like to announce the first in a series of video interviews examining how the field of adolescent health was developed in various countries around the world. These “pioneers” are the people who led the way in promoting adolescent health services, education, and training in their country or region.
The goal of this series is to not only take a deeper dive into how these pioneers influenced the education and training of health care professionals in their countries, but also to inspire and instruct colleagues currently working to establish or strengthen adolescent health in their region. While there is no singular roadmap to develop a robust field of adolescent health, the varied stories and experiences of these pioneers offer practical ideas and paths for building and strengthening the profession locally. With these intimate conversations, we also hope to enhance the international network of adolescent health professionals.
In our inaugural IAAH Pioneer interview, Dr. Melissa Kang (IAAH Vice President, Oceania, and IAAH Education Committee Member) speaks with one of IAAH’s founding members, Dr. Murray Williams, and IAAH past president, Dr. David Bennett, about their groundbreaking work for adolescent health in Australia. They speak about their inspiration, challenges they faced, and the path they took to ultimately create a strong adolescent health profession and field of study in Australia.
Watch for future interviews to be released on our IAAH YouTube channel, including interviews with Dr. Aidan McFarlane (United Kingdom), Dr. Swati Bhave and MKC Nair (India), and Dr. Gustavo Girard (Latin America).
The IAAH Education Committee aims to provide guidance and direction for education in the field of adolescent health, to ensure accessible, appropriate, and cross disciplinary resources, to develop and/or disseminate educational content, and to collaborate with other organisations and partners to advance the mission of IAAH around education.
