It is time for International Adolescent Health Week (IAHW) 2025, a global initiative that raises awareness and action for adolescent well-being. While specific events for 2025 are still being finalized, work has already begun to engage young people, healthcare providers, and community organizations around the world.

Leading this year’s effort is Dr. Ngozi Oketah, Co-Chair of the Adolescent Medicine Network of Ireland and Director of IAHW for the International Association for Adolescent Health (IAAH).

At the center of the campaign are 75 youth ambassadors from over 40 countries, who meet monthly to share ideas and shape the vision for IAHW. Their input helps ensure the week reflects the priorities of young people across regions. A global planning committee meets alongside them to provide support and mentorship.

“Small actions by many people are what make Adolescent Health Week impactful. It’s everyone’s duty to advocate for young people. The more voices we have, the louder the message becomes.”

— Dr. Ngozi Oketah

This year’s official theme is:

“Thriving Inside and Out: Strengthening Adolescent Physical and Mental Health.”

It emphasizes the importance of holistic well-being, encouraging support for both mental and physical health in adolescents. Outreach has also begun to youth-serving organizations—ranging from hospitals and charities to advocacy networks and schools—inviting them to design and host their own local events. IAHW encourages flexible, community-driven approaches, with activities in past years including school-based education, mental health workshops, art sessions, parenting classes, giveaways, and policy advocacy.

While most programs are confirmed about three to four weeks before the week itself, the IAHW team encourages early planning. The 2025 theme will continue to use lime green as its signature color—symbolizing youth energy and visibility.

Social media will play a major role again this year, with regular updates shared on Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter). Participants are encouraged to follow IAHW’s official accounts and to share content using the campaign hashtags:

#IAHW2025 #ThriveInsideOut #StrongMindsStrongBodies

The IAHW website is currently being updated with 2025 resources. In the meantime, organizations and individuals are invited to start brainstorming how they might participate in this global movement to support adolescent health.
